Concussion and Vestibular Rehabilitation

Sep 11, 2020/in Interests/by Tania Mayne

I have been working in Concussion management for 3 years – managing the Concussion Service in private practice and treating clients. I see a variety of cases, predominantly concussions in contact sport in the adolescent population, but also concussion in non-contact sports and every-day individuals. Each come with an individual presentation and set of symptoms with their specific rehabilitation goals. The mTBI is a fascinating merger of neurological injury and the highly functional individual. A challenge in considering all aspects of brain injury and musculo-skeletal injury and weighting their importance in the presentation and subsequent rehabilitation – cervicogenic, vestibular, ocular, cognitive, psychological, functional and autonomic. Rehabilitation involves an inter-disciplinary team to help understand and manage these components. I could not practice in this field without understanding the individual components of the injury and have developed further interests in vestibular rehabilitation and cervico-genic headaches.
